When I began playing CF in '94, looting was easy; people were able to buy a giant mercenary or use their demon/zombies/whatever to directly loot pretty much everything from their kills. At the same time though, gear just didn't seem that important because there were always huge group on group fights. Now if there did happen to be a situation where a lowbie looted your kill and you wanted some of the choice loot, you could easily trade a bit of help to them and they would for the most part be willing to give you the gear. There seemed to be a respect that lowbies showed heroes which to me should be mandatory RP wise. It seems like this has left CF a bit and I'm not sure why.
With that in mind, I wanted to discuss what everyone's thoughts on looting is. Game mechanics wise, I haven't played since corpseguard was put in, but it seems like a really well implemented system. Regardless, I still think there still could be some improvements.
Now for those who think lowbie looting is realistic, I agree IF there weren't PK ranges in place. I have a few ideas which may have already been talked about before, but I'm not sure if these are that feasible.
1. Allow hero corpses to only be looted by people in their range. This would motivate people to level up to hero as well as limit shithead lowbies looters. RP wise, you could say that the God of <Sphere> protects this corpse from you.
2. Allow heroes who have their kills looted by someone outside of their range to enter that individual's range to cleanse them of their ill-gotten loot.
3. Place a lag on people per item based on the Level of the Corpse - the Level of the Looter.
That's all I have for now, tell me what you guys think.
