First off, I've done what you said you did on AOL in game multiple times. MULTIPLE TIMES.
Sometimes, it's ends up that the character I just showed High Lord's Keep to is a total newb. Sometimes, he's Krilcov. Sometimes, he's one of my friends IRL. It's just like that most of the time.
I remember showing Bajula something one time about an item that has a total hidden property. He was blown away and thought I was super cool (he said on my death thread). Here's the funny thing though. HE'S BEEN PLAYING THE GAME MUCH LONGER THAN ME :)
Also, I told EVERYONE. FUCKING EVERYONE. About the secret poison immunity thing in HLK. I'm pretty sure I was the first person other than Kasty to figure that shit. FFS I remember I killed a certain mob like 6 hrs after HLK went live, and had NO CLUE what the thing did until I went out there, paid attention, and then was like OOOOOOOOOOOH SHIT. So please don't perpetuate the rumor Bendak is subscribing to that no one helps the n00bs. MOST CF PLAYERS DO.
Does that mean I'm going to PM you wand info? Fuck no.
Does that mean I'm going to IM you quest secrets? Fuck no.
Does that mean occasionally I'll answer certain questions over PMs? Sure, depending on the questions. If you ask me something like 'Does INSERT ITEM HERE come from a quest?' you will get a straight answer from me.
Noobs can still find cool shit. You just have to want to. You have to ENJOY exploring. If you don't, then no manner of quest/game secrets I feed you through AOL will make you any better in the long run. Sure your characters might be tougher, and sure, you can hero quickly. But then you become EXACTLY the type of player Bendak is angry at. Because now you know the secrets, and you don't want to share. Because that info makes you weaker. And guess what? THAT'S ALL YOU WANTED THE INFO FOR. To be stronger in PK. To be Billy Bad Ass. So therefore, why would you share that info?
Not only that, but too many people put stock in "winning" and too little stock in "having fun".
It's more a culture thing than anything, so there is no real solution to it.
