It is, however, completely unnecessary. It just forces the player you looted to waste more of his time running around grabbing shinies when he could instead be doing something more fun, like pking or RPing and generally adding to the game.

Unnecessary looting and looting of stuff you can't use is just giant piles of terrible and makes this game a worse place.
