You basically got in *one* command against Zwerg, since you kept trying to do mace stuff. And you still almost killed him. If you'd done a doublethrust or even a couple jabs before the flurry then he'd have probably died.
You generally want to know what you're wielding when you go into a fight, and optionally have aliases to switch weapons mid-fight.
Like Balrahd said, you can't pay cents when you're bloody from an Imperial. (Live and learn).
Fighting a shaman at cents is generally a very bad idea. Heck, fighting any imperial at cents is a bad idea unless you can word out of combat and that person can't curse.
Sidenote: Fighting a shaman when you have bad spell saves and/or are wielding heavy weapons (e.g. dragonis) and/or aren't wearing much +str gear is also generally a bad idea.
If you'd had, say, a pair of light mithril maces, then you might have been able to make Zerrla flee so you could teleport away. Or knock her out with cranial, so combat would stop and you could teleport away.
