The Forsaken
Waylay and then disarm won't do much good, he'd still get his polearm back. Plus, you'd likely eat charge set since it trumps ambush.
Ambush disarm won't do much good, same as above.
Entangle would work, but then he'd just switch to whips and entwine. And entwine really screws over a ranger's wilderness fam (Bogrel got me that way, recently).
Plus, pull or drive and ranger is in even more trouble depending on proximity to civilized area.
It's a tough match up.
1) You are guaranteed to outmelee the person in question at least the first two rounds if not the whole fight. Even without haste.
2) You only open your opponent up to one command if you ambush disarm from a snare. Using a staff/spear, this move most of the time won't fail. They might get away but that's everything in CF, all it means is their spec choice ensured that they didn't die, not that they actually have a chance to kill you.
3) If you are pulled, driven or entwined, there's always wear return;brandish in the lag from entwine. You have to eyejab THEN entwine. Do you know how hard it is to get more than one command off against a properly bearcharging ranger? Mahendorian was a noob. Hakdu is not, he's using every trick I did and more. Depending on when this command goes through you may just want to bearcharge again while they have no main wield.
4) You don't have to use waylay, but snare gets rid of charge set. If it doesn't it needs to be bug boarded. Charge set or not, entangle to start or entangle from a snare is a good option, then there's only one round. If entwine is fired it will probably miss, entwine's success rate is dismal even in optimal conditions. If it lands, see above.
It's a tough matchup but polearm only stops retarded wood-elf rangers from killing you. Most cloud giants, especially with prot v. metals and prot heat cold, still stand an extremely good chance against you.
