Fuck, why do I even get involved in this shit.
And it's not about internet melodrama, and I assure you that you're the only one who's upset.
Let me try to explain what it's like for the calm people in the middle of this debate.
It's about legitimately feeling that people clearly have the right to own guns. The 2nd amendment says so.
But this is not carte blanche to amass weapons that are designed for no other purpose than the mass slaughter of human beings.
The arms of the late 18th century were very, very different than what we have today, and that needs to be taken into consideration.
People who are overly afraid of mass shootings are being silly. These events are statistically very unlikely to happen and worrying about
it while continuing to drive a car or take a shower or eat certain foods is very hypocritical. It's also true that people who are intent on
creating mayhem will do so without guns. This kid with a knife wasn't very effective, but it still boggles my mind that we haven't had
any suicide bombers in the US. This may be because we have access to guns or it may be a matter of culture, but if we were to remove
guns from the hands of the population I suspect people would still get killed en masse at movie theaters from time to time.
People who are overly afraid of corrupt government and feel that their guns will protect them from a scenario where the government goes
on the offensive against its citizens are being silly. No matter how well armed you are the US military is better armed. If they want to,
they will kill you. The guns you use to protect your homes against intruders will not work against them.
If you distrust the US government enough to feel that you need to arm yourself against them, you should probably move.
If you want to be afraid of something, be afraid of these things:
Be afraid of the fact that sometimes, no matter where you live, people will come into your home to hurt you and your loved ones. A gun may prevent this.
Be afraid of the fact that with a gun in your home you are more likely to shoot someone you love than an intruder.
Balance these things and come up with a decision that's right for you.
Just be aware that frothing rhetoric from either side is really off-putting to the majority of the population and you spend all your time arguing with each other
when you should be doing your best to get us to agree more with you than them, but none of you can stop being assholes long enough to do so.
Good job?
