It clarifies things in a powerful way. Ever have a day where you're struggling to find purpose? Direction? Motivation? Well, that's all over. So from that perspective actually, it tends to help solve some problems and put things into perspective for you. You'll deal with some things you maybe never thought you could handle
like a champion - because there will be no doubt in your mind about your priorities.
For me I always kinda felt in my life like, "Why bother?" Work, collect money, buy things to help you work more and/or be able to sleep when you're not working...oh and food. Life seemed really pointless - like a treadmill that you're running for no reason. After I had my son though, the whole 'why bother' question is not an issue any more. I work because it's my job to provide, I take much better care of my health for the same reason...your simple role as provider, mentor and protector for a child can certainly give you a strong sense of purpose.
