You're making assumptions about my intentions and statements that are wrong. So I'll try to dodge an argument and help you out:
1. I never said 'Shit, why'd Bush back this guy!'. I just said reading that headline made me come to a realisation I'd already known.
2. From my point of view, just about any republican candidate would be bad. But I can understand how even a republican can bring about good results. See my hopeful statement on having a positive republican candidate in the original post. Yet my experience is that the republican party in general holds policies that mean bad, bad things for everyone. They always prove the greater evil, whatever people want to say at the time.
3. I'm very aware of who McCain is, and what his policies are. Thanks for asking. It's also why he's very low on my list for presidents - he shows all the signs of being as corruptable and manipulative as Bush. Just in different ways.
4. The inevitability of doom tickles me. I guess the only thing I can do, is joke. Try not to take things too seriously, and accept your new fuhrer with good grace.
Seig Heil! Seig Heil!
Edit: A personal note for Java. I was checking the CIA factbook the other day, and noticed there is indeed a 'life satisfaction index' for countries. Cuba's was nearly identical to the US. Huh, go figure... I guess free national health and guaranteed work for all aren't enough to create a real 'hell hole'. There's also a Happines index that combines this stat with others, and it ranks Cuba pretty high due to it's low ecological footprint, long life span and high satisfaction ratings. It even ranks it much higher than the US (which has a hugely negative environmental impact).
