You have to understand the skills you have and how they work. They are like any other ranger really, snare/ambush is still going to net you kills. The one thing going for them is their amazing defensive capability inside or outside of the wilds (especially inside). The utility of their extra serpent strike as well as the devastating effects of timed attack (which is annoying to pull off I agree)
If you bring a fire elemental into the water, expect it to get pissed off and attack when its binding wears off. Same with a water in heat. I think air and earth are more lenient in where it can go. But air doesn't like water either. YMMV.

Inevitably all your spots end up in a place you cannot get them. I would think as a serial AP player you would get this. As aps are the worst at wand collecting. It can stall the enjoyment of a character for dozens of hours. And every day as you even try to get your barrier hint you can burn 20 to 30 mins not even getting the hint.

When snare is tripped, its a 0 hour flag that will continue to snare anyone walking in. It depends on when the snare is tripped. If it is tripped at beginning of tick, there is some time, if it is tripped at the end of the tick where the 0 expires immediately, then it looks like it "doesn't" work. Snare has worked like this for years.
