This one is fascinating and I think in an ideal CF this *is* how it works, but it is very hard to tell what is truly broken from the player perspective vs just a little imbalanced. I do think it takes too long (years in most cases) you get some of these things adjusted.by laearrist - Main Board
I'm not 100% sure if you are sincere, but I'm going to assume you are. The area work is fairly straightforward and there are plenty of people to do that. The game has no lack of builders, after all, since it is basically the only mechanics thing you are required to do to Imm as far as I know. There would also be code though, which we don't appear to have... You can't hby laearrist - Main Board
All of the people who work at Target decided not to shop at Walmart and write a policy. New workers start and old workers leave, but everyone stick with the no shopping at Walmart policy. But it wasn't made up at corporate Target or some higher authority. It's a volunteer org that voluntarily decided to stop posting on QHCF. Or do you believe Scarab is holding everyone to the line oby laearrist - Main Board
In your example I would say I'm banned from Walmart because I choose not to shop there. Except I still check out their prices and keep tabs on them and go to the store. I just don't buy anything and Walmart doesn't care if I do, but I say I'm banned. That's silly.by laearrist - Main Board

Sort of fits with PK ranges and means level 60 weapons aren't nerfed for hero's and that you can use a level 40 weapon at 31 without penalty, but that avg 30 level 50 weapon at level 1 is crap-ish (1/5 of 30 is 6... so worse than you could have with proper level stuff). Could test, but don't care enough to.by laearrist - Main Board
My idealized flow goes something like: Skull Name be mourned? New? Existing? New to CF? Login Yes No Pre-gen human paladin Character Creation (Random generated desc) Drop you to Academy Movement (n,s,e,w,u,d) Gain a level! (2) Get a decent weapon and annoint it. Join a group Kill some mobs. Gain aby laearrist - Main Board
The Academy is filled with jargon and seems to have the some of the same issues Skyrim does. It also seems to completely miss on the core engagement of CF. In a general sense, what would you make the first 5-15 minutes of CF be to really sell a new player? I'd make sure they were PK'd, or at the very least pretend PK'd. Funnily enough, when I started playing CF, that liteby laearrist - Main Board
How does CF do pacing? It seems fairly clear that, to me, that the big lull is quitting. I've certainly had sessions where the relief when logging out was palpable because the entire sessions was so tense. I feel like resting, recovery after fighting, also does some pacing, though I'm not sure it "fits the curve". Does the action, actual fighting, fit the curve? Iby laearrist - Main Board
How could we create a gameplay based tutorial for CF?by laearrist - Main Board
Good video. Also thanks Paul for the previous ones by the same folks that led me to this one. Does Full Loot/Full Sac reduce complexity? Does it increase depth? Do you think CF is developed with a mind toward increasing depth without increasing complexity.by laearrist - Main Board

I'm failing to find my post, but you did better than I would have thought, although I'm not 100% sure you couldn't have done better (or as good) with basically anything else played that aggressively at low levels. I think I mostly had issue with pre-25 skillset, but again I'm failing to find what I wrote... Do you know where that post is by chance?by laearrist - Char Board

Any more than a wikipedia article on intelligent design is scientific by virtue of its citations. I think there are better game design resources out there (not that I really all of it obviously) and more recent ones (It's from 2003!), but probably not any more that are focused squarely on MUDs...by laearrist - Main Board
Sometimes though they just cite other people's glorified opinions in a kind of academic circle jerky. Not that this is the case here, but I'm somewhat biased going in. The whole of Bartle's stuff strikes me as mostly first mover advantage...by laearrist - Main Board
It always seems to be quoted like gospel among MUD circles, but seems to be basically one dude who wrote down his opinion and everyone gives it the weight of researched facts or something... If there is some research behind it, I'll be happy to be wrong, but it always struck me as odd. It's basically an opinion piece, no?by laearrist - Main Board
