After spending thousands of pages developing Rob Stark and building his power base, Martin kills him off suddenly without letting him accomplish anything. This gave you some sort of fulfillment, and felt to me like some kind con job. If the character is nothing but a comparatively minor death in the series, why spend so much time developing him? Couldn't he just have talked a little bit aby vortexmagus - OT Board
He introduces a huge cast of characters and then kills off most of them in the next fifty pages, making you wonder why he bothered doing it at all. He's also managed to kill off four of my favorite characters so far, getting me attached to them over the course of a few thousand pages and then destroying them. Kaput. If dragonlady or fencer girl dies next novel, I quit. Seriously.by vortexmagus - OT Board
Goodkind completely fails at making the protagonist and romantic lead human, they're just too perfect. They don't make real mistakes, they don't hold prejudices, and they're always, always doing the right thing (or trying to). What separates them and gives them problems to overcome is usually some grandiose evil master plan done by someone super evil. I can't ever pictureby vortexmagus - OT Board

Roll 3 different warriors or 3 different rangers or 3 different assassins, see which one you like best. Delete the other two and STICK WITH IT. Even if the going goes crap, you gotta stick with it. Even if you're bored as fuck or your range is multikilling you and full looting your ragesteel, STICK WITH IT. Eventually you'll get hero, and start having fun.by vortexmagus - Main Board
Gruesomely butchering those elves in the Vale of Arendyl should have the whole of Darsylon (a five minute walk away) up in arms and ready to kick the shit out of you in order to defend their people. But they don't, because of game mechanics. Therefore, leveling in the vale is game mechanics abuse?' Or wait, lets do this for cabal raids. healer + wrather attacking you would have completely fuxed the permalag from shield bash/bash if you had lasted one or two more rounds, or if anti-gank code had been a little kinder.by vortexmagus - Log Board
This happens to be just one of them. Everyone does it, including villagers. Only difference is villagers aren't supposed to. I've always thought that was a stupid restriction anyway, since realistically very few ragers abide by it fully. They just make up all sorts of different ways to edge around it.by vortexmagus - Log Board

>I hate when my level 6 spell does 100 damage to everyone, or heals everyone on my team for 100. 100 damage to everyone? Would that, perchance, be Thunderbringer's ult, one of the most overpowered ults in the game? An ult which heals everyone on your team for 100... would that be Ophelia's ult, one of the most important support spells in the game? Seriously, I'm not sayingby vortexmagus - OT Board
Its like in some twisted place in your head, Scrimbul, you think of yourself as the only person in the game who has never ganged another person in a questionable alliance. As if you expect parity laws applied to everyone but you. Ganging is a part of the game, you've done it before, too. You need to get over the fact that its going to be done to you back.by vortexmagus - Log Board

that would refuse to return items to groupmates or cabal allies who've just died. If you're a gear whore and more concerned with gear than helping your friends... how could that ever be a good-align thing?by vortexmagus - Log Board
