Using sleep() causes the entire application (or thread) to wait, which means you can't do anything during that time.
What Diku based MUDs do, IIRC, is assign each player a timer which gets incremented as they enter commands or do things that cause "lag". Part of the main game loop involves synchronizing the clock and handling ticks/pulses/beats, etc. Basically, while your timer
An IMM commented on the officials recently and it went something along the lines of, if you're gonna play a sphere sloth character, for example, your RP needs that much more depth and effort because it's hard to tell the difference between good RP and no RP in that case.
It's hard to tell the difference between a well RPd Dymon and a "talk like a pirate" Dymon whose de
Even if the meaning of her helpfile escapes folks, she's made it pretty clear what the religion is about. Dymon failed at it.
I have no sympathy for Neltouda with regards to having to put up with people who -talk- like Dymon because she opened that door with the pirate theme, but otherwise, I'm inclined to agree with Jalim (FML).
You've been playing CF for 14 years and ONLY play at work?
I'm no saint, but damn, I almost want to have Pro track you down so I can let your poor employer(s) know how much of an apparent bum you are.
Playing an annoying 'tard to perfection isn't bad RP. It's good RP if you do it right. The latter doesn't mean that people won't be people and end up ignoring you instead of rewarding you. I think Dymon fell short of your expectations because regardless of whether your RP was good (that's subjective), apparently a lot of folks (including at least 2-3 IMMs) simply wan
What you're describing isn't unique to CF. Every MUD, MMO, or RPG that focuses largely on PvP (and most that don't) not only have learning curves, but require just as much, if not more of a time investment than CF to become better than average.
The reason CF is such a bitch is because it's a lot harder to learn than almost any other game, because:
1) We have to stay "
Qhcf seems to favor threaded forums versus "flat" forums like phpBB where posts are listed under topics in chronological order, and people can't respond directly to individual posts.
Phorum can do both, but apparently it's not working right on Dio's. My guess is that the custom theme Gabe made to match the old style forums doesn't support both layout types.

The pretty much get a pass on the rule Batman posted whenever they come in to gank down some fool the neutral/evil Tribunal doesn't like, but if anyone comes to attack a Tribunal or one of their lackeys, it's fair game to flag them.
However, I want to say that one of the Imps (Zulg/Daev/Valg) said that they had gone through and changed it so you would no longer teleport into a room that you could not teleport out of.
Start by taking the Twitchy edge. That will provide you some very limited danger sense.
Try to stay moving. Don't sit in cities or other "safe" places where you can be stalked. If you're constantly on the move, especially utilizing routes that include water or things that bring rogues out of hiding, then stalking / assassination / theft becomes less of a concern. As far as
1) Editing out prompts makes the logs less interesting, and it really doesn't matter because you aren't an AP/necro or something where your HP is gonna get crazy high, AND:
2) You don't have a crazy prompt that is going to identify the player, which I can tell because;
3) You failed to edit it out completely, again:

Comparing SQL Server Express and Access is silly.
Express is worthless without a custom-built app / GUI on top of it, which the developer has to build out himself, debug, maintain, etc.
With minimal effort, Access is going to provide all the CRUD (forms, fancy reports, etc.) that the customer needs without having to build that functionality out from scratch.
It's two different produ

My bet is he needs to be able to enter inventories, update their counts and print out some weekly report from it.
:-P
Which, FWIW, is something dozens of products of varying sizes, prices, and complexities do better than Access. They're also likely to provide much nicer interfaces to the end-users and scale better in terms of functionality as business requirements expand.
I was thinking more in terms of functionality than scale. Integrating with Access is never fun, especially when it's third party vendor stuff and not something Microsoft branded.
I've seen a lot of small/medium sized businesses abandon Access for products with greater interoperability, larger feature sets, etc., and it indeed rarely had anything to do with scale. Most of the time tho
Based on your saying "inventory and pricing", I'm going to bet there is a product (commercial or F/OSS) that meets your needs.
If all you want to do is store data and create forms to do the CRUD, Access will work, but companies have a way of outgrowing Access and that almost always leads to headaches.
If you want to build a small app on top of an RDBMS, I'd go with MySQL

I'm pretty sure it was actually 15-16, but that's how old I was when I turned on my autologger.
Zulg, Thror, Lyristeon, Daevryn, Iunna/Padwei I have all seen in the evenings (game time) in the past month or so.
Corrlaan just updated his wizlist entry to say he'll be available in the evenings too.
I just get bored with characters quick, especially in the lower levels and/or if I'm playing (ranking) slow. If I set my mind to it, doing a 7-pather would certainly be doable.
For whatever reason, I find the idea of a 5-pather a lot more interesting (mainly based on the power boost of affinity).
I've wanted to try a five path Invoker for a long time. Specifically, I want to play an Invoker that is particularly strong in certain elements AND I don't want to spend a lot of time spamming.
Unfortunately, I end up arguing with myself over what to drop and, eventually give up because I can't think of a (five path) build that I'm satisfied with.
What does everyone else
If they changed their policy to allow the posting of logs containing active characters, that would help a LOT.
Further, more Immortals engaging in discussion about mechanics, RP, etc., would draw a TON of traffic, since that's something Dio's cannot offer.
Lastly, they need to update their fucking forum software. I want a "Recent Posts" list/stream, RSS feed, and a half
The company I work for hired 4 people over the course of 8-12 months, each of whom was given a personality test. All of them passed with flying colors. Of then, only one is still employed. The other three left under unfavorable circumstances.
Both before adopting the test and after abandoning it, our ratio of employees hired who worked out and are still employed or left under favorable conditi
As far as I know, every time a character in PK who the shifter doesn't trust (they show up in red on 'where') moves, there is a chance the shifter will get the "You feel you may want to be wary" echo.
I'm not sure if certain forms has a higher chance of setting it off or not, but I had a form with it fairly recently and got the feeling that if an enemy (hidden, ca
As far as I can tell (without knowing some folks alignment), there aren't many candidates for Sunwarden right now anyway, should an IMM have felt like offline-unleadering the current Sunwarden and choosing someone else.
If there were a handful of deserving candidates, I would think Lyr (or someone else) would have pulled the trigger by now.
