I know a family who had this issue. In effect, they lied about the condition, waited 6 months, and then had it re-diagnosed to get it covered. The condition was/is not life threatening but is a drain and requires high-priced meds. So now they're covered. They left Canada for the US. Of course, they had no issues getting coverage in Canada due to the single-payer system. And they were able to 'bury' previous diagnoses and health records becuase they were in a foreign country. A big flaw of US health care is how it's linked to employer, creates a lot of odd situations...
