Yeah. For the intimidation factor.

Then you realize that there's no difference between that and what you'd lose if you were jacked, if the thief is merely cleaning out your inventory.

If the poisoner is trying to concoct in front of you, he's a fucking idiot.

He gets to start with trip instead of backstab or knife. More often than not, if he waylays a perfect health person and starts with trip after using thief waylay, he's not only wasted the thief waylay but is also either going to lose his kill or get his ass kicked.

If he starts with push, knife or backstab, then why not just use the blackjack?

Now, if you want thief waylay as a restrictive, low cost blackjack? Then go for it! Go all out and waylay to your heart's content!

Just remember it's useless on people who are fighting, who get attacked from behind while you're waylaying them, and who can detect hidden, and suddenly real blackjack becomes vastly more appealing and useful, even taking the overestimated 'cb' command into account.

When you realize the waylay is only lasting as long as a shitty blackjack (2 ticks, maybe 3 at hero) if that, it becomes quite a bit less intimidating. Especially since you get an echo when you can put in commands again.

It's possible this skill doesn't trigger paladins' counterstrike. Frankly, if I'm going to fuck with a paladin I'm either a pickpocket cleaning him out without the blackjack or I'm avoiding him until I can gang him. Paladins are generally thug meat prior to getting their second virtue and maran status.

Good thief skills vs. bad ones.

Well then, let's talk "best" build...

doge October 09, 2009 06:39AM

I wasn't discussing builds in this thread. That depends entirely on what you want to do.

Scrimbul October 09, 2009 07:06AM

I will say it out loud. Thief waylay is far less useful than you think.

With Pique

Yes, but if you were quick enough on the ball you could have CB'd in the jack lag.

Um, have you ever...

I've had lore of the ages. The helpfile says it dodges item progs.

Scrimbul October 08, 2009 03:55PM

What's funny is that there is an item that does everything envenom does. NT

KennyPowers October 08, 2009 12:48PM

You will not always have that item. If you know about it, more power to you, save yourself 8 points.

Scrimbul October 08, 2009 04:01PM

Actually, you're kinda right. Getting that item before level 40 as a thief is real real hard. NT

KennyPowers October 08, 2009 04:09PM

Thief waylay

tongni October 08, 2009 10:04AM

I agree. Being thief-waylayed is horrible. (n/t)

Balrahd(VIP) October 08, 2009 01:03PM

Yeah. For the intimidation factor.

Scrimbul October 08, 2009 03:59PM

Oh come on dude. Seriously?

Java October 08, 2009 04:32PM

Counterstrike is huge, and even if the paladin in question is thief waylaid, they will be able to counterstrike out of any opener.

Scrimbul October 08, 2009 10:59PM

So..

Java October 09, 2009 03:31AM

Well, I'm not having the 'if paladins suck enough dick they can get as powerful as liches with less prep time/kill sealing ability' discussion today.

Scrimbul October 09, 2009 07:04AM

Of the last 5 hero paladins to get a PBF, guess how many had temperance?

Java October 09, 2009 10:57AM

Good for you?

Scrimbul October 09, 2009 12:55PM

Except you can thief waylay someone who can't be blackjacked.

KennyPowers October 08, 2009 04:27PM

You can also backstab, after prepping, someone who can't be blackjacked. It is not necessary to jack all, or even a signifigant portion of your kills prior to fighting. nt

Scrimbul October 08, 2009 10:42PM

Being waylayed is worse than being backstabbed.
