Because it will be only one mage. I remember Grobbak (IMM) who rolled some mage, found his sleeks and said "Ah I found my sleeks, there is no problem with sleeks!". It was kinda funny to read how IMM judges huge part of the system based on one char who simply got lucky. As I posted on CF Facebook page, this system offers no balance at all. With my defense/offense shifter and transmuter I got my ambers in non cursed, easy to reach place, no fight needed. Just walk and get it. Then someone rolls an invoker and gets his amber in area explore or past some mobs, who are tough even for hero. Thats bullshit.
>Newbies can have fun exploring for their wands because they haven't been through all the areas a kajillion times.
Back in a day I was a newbie I remember 3 mage chars.
With first one I did not even know about sleeks or abs at all (I came from the mud with almost non-existant prep system). I was steamrolled by anyone and everyone. It could be fun for you, but it certainly was not fun for me.
My third mage (after couple years, when I made a comeback). I heard about sleeks, but noone in my cabal helped me with them. In fact they started to avoid me because 'asking to help with sleek locations is poor ar-pee'. I did not know where to look ever, and I was really frustrated. I wish you good luck exploring most of sleek holding areas with invoker. Or with AP. Especially given the fact, that despite Nep's words "look in magey place", many many locations are in not 'magey' places. Priests, churches etc. Torak named one btw.
Really, roll an invoker and try to find your amber in area explores on 40th rank. Especially if that will be evil invoker (meaning, no pocket healer/paladin/two warriors/transmuter/bard group dying from boredom in the fortress and happy to help you), you will have tons of fun. But not me.
