You'd be better off arguing from the paladin code. Here's what the creed says:
<pre>
A large blue book with delicate gray pages, scribed in silver ink. The text
reads:
The Maran stand as many things, young warrior. Know this and yourself
well before. Keep true to this advice, young one. Keep true to this
creed.
The Maran stand as protectors of the Light. Many misunderstand that our
war is fought not for glory, or for pride. Rather we fight to keep and
maintain all that is pure and holy under the Light, pure and holy. We
ourselves stand near the taint, so others do not have to. It is our
choice. It is our bond. We stand between the tainted and the pure. It has
ever been so...and will ever be so. Until the time of victory. In this
remember at all times, we spill the blood of the darkness's minions. It
is our calling, our duty, our right. However, it is duty. To take great
pleasure in the act, is a taint of its own.
As you fight for the Light, fight as the Light. Strike swift, and true,
but do so for duty. Take great care in what you hunt, and how you hunt.
Take care not to become what you hunt, for if you do, you will find
the wrath you once called upon... called down upon you.
It is a dangerous line we walk- a narrow path, filled with blood. Take
these warnings to heart, young one. Walk the path of Light and do not
stray. Walk the path tightly, for the fall to either side is long and
deadly.

And here's what the Order of the Squires says:
<pre>
A small book covered with gray leather, and bound in blue silk. The text
reads:
Hail young squire.
A dangerous and noble path stretches out before you. It is time to prove
yourself able to walk it. Though you are not yet of the Brigade in name,
do not let that stop you from being one at heart. Learn the creed, and
live it. Fight along side your brothers and your elders. Listen to the
words of the Acolytes...for though their path is not yours, the two run
parallel. Perhaps through their words and wisdom, and not your blade,
our enemy will be defeated, so take heed. Watch also for your brethren
the scribes, as they stand to support you, stand also to support them.
Remember your place in all things, young squire. Humility is part of
your burden along the path. Be respectful to yourself, and to your elders
who have earned a place of honor within the Fortress.
Strike swift and true, young squire.
