Also profits are not the end all be all, in fact profits should be considered a dirty word these days.
Why?
Because profit is the money left over after what is put into the company (ie, our salaries) so less profit means that ownership gets less money but we already are in a situation (in america to be specific) where we are squeezing money out of the masses and consolidating it at an accelerating rate with fewer and fewer people. This decreases the general purchasing power of the masses which in turn hurts business because it limits demand potential. This is why economists often point out that wage inflation has not kept pace with cost of living and we have not seen a jobs recovery even though the economy as a whole is fully recovered from a profit standpoint.
