If I recall correctly, since the late ninteies Selig was actually fighting the Union trying to get <I>more</I> drug testing for the players while the union fought tooth and nail to avoid it. Nobody in the media seemed to really care too much either way back then which is funny. Hell, it was the <I>ball</I> that was juiced *wink wink*. At least we were seeing 70+ home run seasons and that's all anyone cared about then.
Now, how much could Selig really have done? Probably more. The guy is a used car salesman afterall.
I agree. The fact is that even strong suspicion is not proof and other than pushing for more testing what would be expected of him? Looking at someone who is very muscular and then saying, "Oh, that guy *has* to be on steroids" is irresponsible slander if he doesn't have some sort of proof to back it up. Scapegoating him doesn't fix the problem.
