Yeah, every industrialized nation is hugely wasteful. I'd agree that there needs to be an impetus to change-- whether societal pressure or necessity to find better resources. How does this differ from other Industrialized nations?

Me too. But we don't want to be smashed into the ground by other countries who care about wars and political posturing while we are busy with our infrastructure overhaul. The world is a nasty place.

There are many things the US could do to improve. If they focused more on that than making money and war, they'd be better off now and in the future.
