If we learn anything from Bush -

The president is much more powerful in the role of blocking legislation than in "gettin'er done". Obama makes for a brilliant president because he acts based on real freaking morals, and has the intelligence to understand multiple perspectives.

We still need to elect Congress critters to initiate the changes - but with Barack, we'd have a president who listens and acts in everyone's best interest, not just his own.

Also - the dude wrote his own speech. We could have an honest, intelligent, eloquent man representing our country.

McCain is saying ridiculous, blatantly false-to-the-point-of-lying things about other countries, and self-admittedly doesn't really know about the Economy. There are pretty serious allegations about his military career being a pile of bullshit stacked on his father and grandfather's navy careers. He singlehandedly destroyed multiple planes and killed something like 17 American Navy-dudes.

He has spittle-flinging rage attacks; cheats on his wife.

Hillary is pretty clearly an 'Ends Justify the Means' kind of gal (at best).

It's hard for me to take anyone else very seriously as a candidate.

I wish we were a multi-party political system.

I'm sure there's lots of good things to say about him.

An interesting video on US politics.

istirith March 20, 2008 08:20AM

Chomsky is brilliant in general.

Death_Claw March 21, 2008 03:33AM

Bite your tongue re: Bloomberg.

Death_Claw March 20, 2008 07:18AM

Isn't it a bit disheartening then?

Lokain March 20, 2008 06:20AM

If we learn anything from Bush -

Japherwocky March 22, 2008 09:16AM

I see Obama as the more pragmatic of the two.

Death_Claw March 20, 2008 06:31AM

They cant withdraw from Iraq, they need a permanent military presence for oil ~

enyuu March 20, 2008 05:51AM

I don't think that's the case at all.

Death_Claw March 20, 2008 06:33AM

Interesting thing regarding Chomsky's viewpoint on the war in Iraq.

Death_Claw March 21, 2008 03:29AM

I thought the economic argument held a lot more sway...

Yhorian(VIP) March 21, 2008 05:53AM

On that Chomsky agrees with me actually.

Death_Claw March 21, 2008 07:47AM

Uh, I'm lazy

Guy March 21, 2008 07:43AM

According to the US CIA factbook...

Yhorian(VIP) March 21, 2008 11:54AM

I think the point is that China's oil consumption is rising pretty fast (txt)

Jib March 21, 2008 04:12PM

If you take into account the population differences between US and China too, the US consumption is phenomenally large.

istirith March 21, 2008 03:09PM

I think it's logistical, higher densities in China mean less transportation energy needed.

Yhorian(VIP) March 21, 2008 03:21PM

Wow.

Jib March 21, 2008 05:02PM

It's more the culture/situation I was referring to...

Yhorian(VIP) March 22, 2008 01:35AM

For the record, Britain's hands are far bloodier than America's.

Death_Claw March 22, 2008 10:02AM

Actually, any state in the world was and is like that. (txt)

Woland March 24, 2008 07:29AM

Fair comment. And I'm well aware, cheers. nt

Yhorian(VIP) March 22, 2008 06:53PM

Wow. It's easy to understand why people dislike your "opinions". Since they tend to be framed as factual arguments..

Woland March 24, 2008 07:10AM

17% of the oil comes from Saudi Arabia, 17% from two African countries, the rest is from the Americas

Lokain March 21, 2008 07:39AM

Try an expanded list. It shows nearer 23% of total imports being middle-eastern.

Yhorian(VIP) March 21, 2008 12:09PM

Again you're missing the point.

Death_Claw March 22, 2008 09:55AM

Ah regardless..

Lokain March 21, 2008 01:41PM

Not likely, but maybe not as unlikely as you think.

Death_Claw March 22, 2008 09:53AM

Actually, the 'imported' is a good point. Didn't think of that :P

Yhorian(VIP) March 21, 2008 03:13PM

What exactly are you considering the Middle East?
