- Executive order actually placing emphasis on new regulations actually being critical- smart move.
- Avoiding WW3 without making the US (or him) look weak in the eyes of their enemies by blowing up a strip of tarmac with outdated US hardware- smart move.
- Obamacare is fine. He's right that it will implode under the weight of the costs. Either way I see this as a winner for him. If h
I'm an explorer type. I normally get smashed anyway, because the prep user has prepped to the teeth and I don't. Just not worth the time to gather things in game unless I'm running through the area for something else.
Explorers don't think like power gamers. So generally you aren't fighting an optimized PK machine when you're fighting an explorer. That includ
What proportion of character's lives are spent doing mundane and routine tasks versus hunting/interaction. Preferably from a statistically significant sample.
Wands, scrolls, staves etc. I read this more as potions and pills.
Having said that, "this will shift game balance", isn't really an argument in itself. Every major change for the last 20 years has shifted game balance. Look at dex changes and evade, for instance. All this would do is refocus powergamers from prepping towards other things.
Your argument about reducing the
Go farm gold. Go make a trail of gold coins from Market Square in Galadon to the red dragon to get newbs killed. Seriously though, is prep gathering that important to you, or do you just prefer to have an edge over non-preppers?
Don't care either way, just curious. If people really do have a fixation on prepping to pass the time then fair enough I guess?
.. No one followed new players more closely than me. Now, I don't think preps factor in the early-stage game, and are probably unrelated to the reasons why the newbs left. In the mid-game it does make the learning curve somewhat more shallow.
That aside there are reasons as a player why this would be beneficial. For a start, power gamer 1 would no longer need to spend an hour running a
Old player retention is important but it's not a sustainable solution long term. Older players have years of experience though, which cannot be duplicated easily.
Ideally you would like to have you cake and eat it in this scenario. A change with impacts old players detrimentally is not a good thing, but ultimately new players do need to come in as the old players leave. That does tend t
How would you go about adding flags to make preps PvE only?
Edit: you also forgot two major benefit of this (in my opinion), which are:
1. People wouldn't have to spend hours and hours gathering preps as they would now be effectively useless in PK. This is a reduction in the time sink experienced by some players.
2. This would diminish the learning curve for new players AND narrow the
QuoteSo, my question is, how many mob deaths do you consider acceptable and keep playing a character?
As many as it takes. CF is a grudge match and at times that battle will be fought against your own impulses to delete or give in. Don't.
QuoteIn all the years that I've attempted to enjoy CF I have never... ever... gotten to hero. The best I've managed is level 36 on an arcane
My deletion had nothing at all to do with Wishore. At all. Wishore was a non-factor in any decision making processes. It was stuff a while ago in the community coupled with real life issues (still ongoing) that sapped my will and time to contribute and that lack of contribution was the primary reason for the discussion which led to deletion.
While I'm no longer in game, there are two very promising up-and-coming RP heavy imms right now. So it's not all bad. I might play again if I get some time, but more likely I'll just be orbiting the community for a bit. At the moment I'm trying to juggle too many balls (in a manner of speaking) and I risk dropping them all unless I'm careful with my use of time.
"With every knowledgable vet that says 'fuck this, I'm out' we lose out on vast amounts of game knowledge that never comes back because new people don't know all the nuances of how a MUD works. It's a self depricating cycle that ends with the MUD fading into memory. "
This is probably true and as long as rate of exodus out of game > influx into game we
But as I said..
1. Consolidate existing information (currently split between 2 or 3 places.)
2. Provide accurate/vetted information for players as some of the Diku Wiki is incorrect or is player speculation.
3. Provide a place that new players can park and learn the game before they get subjected to a million shitposts.
That was my reasoning. Take a scroll down the page and look at t
"If you want to introduce totally new factions or what ever you only need to do it one at a time generally, using an existing faction/factions in adversarial positions wrap the lore together."
This is true, but new material and lore should be added with new updates IMO. Even if you aren't building on new lore and you're writing existing factions into stuff it requires work
Those old areas were written at a time when growth was critical and the mud needed rapid expansion so they are pretty bare compared to the newer revamps.
Obviously the MUD doesn't need masses of areas now and hasn't needed them for a while but being able to write/append/navigate around an area file is a vital skill for any imm to have and is a major part of the game.
One by one tho
Which might be why Jalim is asking that question. Over the last 10 years most of the stock areas, and the areas which were based on WoT have been taken out or revamped.
And I spearheaded this attempt to get some new features onto the Officials wiki in an attempt to:
1. Consolidate existing information (currently split between 2 or 3 places.)
2. Provide accurate/vetted information for players as some of the Diku Wiki is incorrect or is player speculation.
3. Provide a place that new players can park and learn the game before they get subjected to a million s
And wants to take a crack at creating a parser to port the Diku wiki maps across to the main wiki in a format that it doesn't hate, I would recommend emailing the staff. I've queued up this main world map and linked it.
If someone wants to take a crack at it and give it a shot they can get in touch with the staff however, there would be minimal supervision. It doesn't need t
And I was in the process of porting many of the maps from the existing wiki across, when I was bumped up to 53 and at that stage I was involved in writing my shrine and religion. The wiki software is difficult to use for a host of reasons, including stripping out whitespace automatically and so on. I will be trying to get those maps in some time soon if I can but a parser needs to be designed t

Subject: IP migration
Our service provider is migrating IP addresses and that has impacted us
(probably unexpectedly because CF mail was down during the crucial time).
Until we complete the migration, players will have to connect to the game
using the new IP address (w/the old port number):

After that I will review my priorities. It's likely I'll continue playing at least on and off because I'm finally beginning to hit my stride at hero in this game and I'm thinking of trying to give something back to the game.
So you'll see me in-game, probably, but not on here.
Anyway, all the best bud.
