it throws open the gates for ppl to cry about conspiracies and favoritism
and all the shit IMMs repeatedly told us sap their will to play the game.
With that in mind, I don't understand why they're so reluctant to allow
more *determinism* and reproducibility in the game. Either way, something
has to give, it's more than obvious that the current approach is not working.
you don't seriously fuck with something that's entrenched in this fashion
(and it's not like they didn't know how it would go down)
without offering anything to replace it.
In practice, it's a lot worse than this, cause there are PLENTY
of skills that are *completely crippled/unusable* without the relevant
edges and they've been designed with that in mind.
... no I'm "working".
I said Zannon is not good at PK, how is that an insult?
He even said so himself multiple times in the past IIRC.
Then you jumped in all riled-up so I couldn't resist.
Anyway, I apologize for making fun of your profession.
they should know better, those who suck at PK will suck no
matter how many edges they get.
Umiron has been pretty vocal about how he doesn't like
the amount of edges ppl get and so on. You could say
that many (most) edges make ppl who already know
how to PK stronger and in some cases a lot stronger but don't give
me the 'we did it for the newbs' angle.
It's pr
It's all good as long as it happens away from prying eyes is that it?
Don't let the newbs and the Evil One find out and punish us oh noes.
There is only so much shit you can pile up before it becomes a mountain
that ends up burying you.
someone got pissed off due to that helpfile leak & dump.
Nevermind that pretty much all secret info they wanna keep
secret is routinely *exchanged* in an OOC manner
through various back-channels. It's when it gets out in
the open that we have a problem.
So the kneejerk reaction followed.
Since Umiron posted a few more times with clarifications,
I think I can safely assume
see my other post. I include myself in the list of OCD/min-maxers/looking for tiny edges
players. Hell I'd spend hours perfecting cloud of wasps/mosquitoes with shit INT whenever
I got them.
I'll grind *whenever I feel I have to* but if tedium > fun I'm simply gonna find something else to do.
If there's one thing that characterizes the times we live in, it's endl
with mechanics that increase enjoyment rather than tedium.
There will *always* be players who are OCD/min-maxers/trying to extract
the slightest edges/call them whatever you want.
The IMMs should realize that they can't change those players,
they'll play until tedium > fun and then they'll stop, so the IMMs
should focus on changing the game.
I'm not saying that
if they'll take the time to code shit like this in order to shoe-horn players into
their perceived IDEAL.
If people want to bot observation/explore, LET THEM DO IT.
There are enough penalties *in-game* (other players, aggro mobs, hostile
environments) for that, let EMERGENCE take care of the situation.
But noooo, we have to create rigid structures to really show folks how to play
to the degree that they currently are (e.g. the vast majority of them).
I don't mind obs/exp XP as long as the rewards are relevant
to observation/exploring and not PK.
It's ludicrous to give no rewards whatsoever through PK
(PK is its own reward folks!) while at the same time have rewards
that affect PK to a BIG degree be available through soul-destroying
repetitive grind. Fuc
as far as the changes you proposed are concerned, they've been brought up
before @ officials.
One problem, in my view, with CF is the IMM belief that they can shape
the game to fit their vision and doing so with a direct, hands-on approach that
alienates quite a lot of players. I've long advocated for emergent gameplay with
full freedoms for the players as long as the RP-enforced
killer atmosphere though and they had some GREAT talent that
would put CF best RPers to shame.
That was couple of years ago when I was playing it semi-regularly,
haven't played in a while.
druids are not terribly hard but have some unique mechanics
to get used to.
If you've never played Outlander before,
playing a ranger will let you learn a lot about the cabal
in the fastest amount of time I feel.
Krunk doesn't even make the top 10.
He was chief and begging my lowbie orc at the time for skins. Bleh.
The player is terrible at RP.
I was running around (and played against) with Kubilak, Fycul
and even rettinger's orcs were miles better in terms
of RP/immersion and creating fun situations.
happened *before* some of the most memorable characters and situations ever in the game.
Yah, real death knell that..
As I said you need to look at the thresholds.
40 players -> you still got a game, a good game even
20 players -> you're in trouble
11 players -> you're fucked
< 10 players -> pack it up and go home
The aim of the adminstration imo should be t
you would realize I never claimed players were driven away by whatever it is you think drove them away.
My whole point was that years of these overwhelmingly *perceived* bad behaviors
DID NOT DO AS MUCH DAMAGE as the current incarnation managed to do in a far shorter
period of time.
In fact I explicitly said I could argue a lot of these things were *beneficial* to the game.
There was a
I don't know what context you're using equate in.
CF with 40 players is not even close to a dead game.
CF with 11 ...
As far as gameplay goes, the loss of players is not strictly linear
with the overall fun factor (obv with exceptions) it's more threshold based.
So, even if the things I mentioned in my other post brought the numbers down
to 40 from 100+ all by themselv
and it's all gone downhill from then on. I deleted a new char (the first in more than a year)
recently that I played for a total of 10 hours by myself pretty much. All the people I used
to play the game and have fun with have also stopped playing, most for similar reasons.
The atmosphere in the MUD due to low numbers and absence of regulars
made it feel as if I was playing a different
the CF administration implements certain things (like MSDP).
Otherwise the end result will miss (or badly implement) a lot of features
that can be used used to attract the STEAM crowd and make the end
result stand out.
that are especially crafted to appeal to dumb fucks and also constitute the vast majority of the american
population.
One only has to watch the trailers for batman vs superman,
independence day: resurgence, x-men: apocalypse, star trek: beyond to see the same
stupid motif being crudely shoved down people's throats.
Fuck that noise.
Here are some great horror movies that I enjoy
all they need to do is implement MSDP that streams server data over its own
multiplexed channel on top of telnet. Then people with skills can write their
own clients. The "facelifts" one can get through this can be radical, to say the least.
I don't give a shit about bitmap graphics for rooms and characters but I would like them
(or equivalent clicky clicky interfaces) for c
