Name me some conjurers who were uber-PKmachines. Ok, now name me some who accomplished that in the year 2000 (basically, after nightgaunts were toned down and mana/power ratios raised).

I bet you I can name more warriors, necromancers, and hell, even bards, who were feared more than any conjurers in recent times.

They can seem too powerful at times, yes. And depending on what class you are, they can be really brutal. And yet, there are ways to negate their effects. This is Nepenthe-esque, but once more people figure out how to deal with archons (and devils, to a lesser extent), conjurers are going to look a lot more limited. I'm still waiting for it to happen on anything resembling a broad scale.
