Hey guys, I might as well introduce myself and say hi! I read qhcf.net and the main boards quite frequently(daily) but really haven't said much on them or been very active that way. But this discussion really caught my eye. I thought I might through a bit of insight into the conversation through the eyes of a relative "newbie" to CF. Basically, I haven't played any MUDS for almost 10 years and was super bored when I moved back to Canada half a year ago and winter was starting so I thought I would find something fun to do. Low and behold I was cruising around and found topmudsites.com or whatever it is and after reading through all the descriptions CF looked like it had the best. So I came and checked it out. The main sight is great compared to any other MUD sight I have browsed at(especially in the last 2 days since the server has been down and I have been trying to find my fix elsewhere haha). The game is so indepth it was super intimidating when I first began. I had absolutely no idea what to do since I basically haven't even looked at a Telnet screen in years, but after about a week or so screwin around with an Orc I got the hang of things. Took me 45 hours to get that Orc up to level 20 since I was so busy exploring and figuring stuff out, but it was all good, tons of fun. Only fought in PK twice and went 1-1 in that time, nobody ganged me, nobody "full sacced" or looted me, so maybe I was just lucky? Actually since I have played, I still have yet to be full looted....been ganged a few times though haha. Anyways, since then, I have played every class except for assassin and transmuter, and almost every race I have tried out, basically just to get the hang of the intricies of each combo kind of thing. My highest level character has still only been level 29(a human warrior) but now I think I have enough knowledge and a base to try to bring my current character to hero. I know so much about level 1-25, where to find everything I need kind of thing, but no idea about the high level gear, so it should be fun.
The reasons I have stuck around are because of the indepthness of CF. It may turn some newbies off, but I love it, LOVE IT. I love that there is limited gear out there, and places like Hell where I can have a shot at it if I ever get powerful enough. I love to just spend a few hours exploring, once again the indepthness is amazing. The roleplay has been well done by a lot of characters I have interacted with, and only a few times have I seen anyone go OOC. The imms are doing a great job, my only complaint is that the religions aren't a bit more varied, and empowerment can be a bitch to get if you have to track down and constantly wait and hope the imm your are trying for is going to be on, but I guess that is half the fun right? With all my characters I have tried to write really good roles and descs, and its been awesome to have the imm love showered on a few of them, really makes my day when stuff like that happens....also a key factor in why I stuck around.
Basically I have solo leveled most of my characters to 25 or so as well, just to get a really good feeling for the class. I think thieves suck and need a huge revamp, but other than that I think the other classes are quite good. Druids seemed a bit too powerful to me when I played one, but nobody else seems to play them so its ok haha.
Well, yah, I will be sticking around for years to come I think. Great game, and well done in designing it. If anyone has any questions for me to answer from the insight of a newbie feel free to ask!
