I think that is precisely the issue with the great bulk of organized religion, which is why my mind conjures these (almost certainly futile) attempts to lead them slowly away from the pinnacle of surety that blind faith provides into a more compromise-oriented mindset, in which the multiverse can be explored, and their hopes and dreams regarding the nature of their faith can be left intact.
Similarly, I would say that the standard of truth (in my mind, observable evidence and logical theory) should indeed apply to religion. It should apply to ALL religion... which is to say, it should be applied to those who label themselves as active atheists... given a theory proposing a higher power/being, etc- in the arena of cosmology on that scale of dimension or influence, there are not many rules we understand, and so attempting to prove a negative in that context seems just as arrogant as attempting to prove a positive. This is the foundation for considered agnosticism, which any truly scientifically literate person could very well choose to subscribe to. Prior to Eratosthenes and his damn genius idea with the pillars and the shadows and whatnot, people had no way to know the shape or size of the earth, so theorizing about it was pretty damn well academic.
Anyway, much love, great post by you, agree fully, just expanding.
