It was intended to be a knock on people crying about lack of edges and/or the absence of "old school" cabal powers. Also pointing out that back in the days of free-flowing edge points my characters tended to have an absurd amount of edges, which no doubt contributed to some degree to the (modest) PK totals I managed to eke out. There are no doubt a few newbies who would not have dieby Isildur - Main Board

So is it accurate to say that you consider "much more powerful cabal powers that are available to most cabal members" to be something that was good, back in the day, that is now missing? I'm a little foggy on what all the master powers were, but I remember transform, brew and scourge of the violet spider. Maybe volley. All outlanders get insects. Agreed. I can't read his mind, but I suspect he was in the camp that wanted it to be more like the "old days", whatever that means. If I ever join the staff I might reach out to him and ask.by Isildur - Main Board

From his goodby message it sounds like if the staff's vision for the game changed to align more with his, that he might be amenable to returning. You need to make a character with zero role-play restrictions that can attack anyone in range. The numbers are still a problem, but at least that way you're not further limiting yourself.by Isildur - Char Board
Agreed. But you hit them a lot more with the staff. Plus it ups your defense some. The extra melee hits (by virtue of your opponent not knowing the weapon) might offset the backfists.by Isildur - Main Board

> If you're not factoring vulns then why is felar a better fort? I'm taking into account vulns when assessing the races overall. Not taking into account vulns of the specific question of "which one is going to get hit the least". For that, I think arial beats human even if arial parries worse. Generally speaking, the difference in melee defense isn't huge. Toby Isildur - Main Board
> Permafly and 2 more dex isn't worth the less hp and nasty fucking vulns. *Maybe* for a villager but villagers are gay. I said nothing about the vulns. Just that you get permafly and (arguably) better melee defense. Are you contending that a human will have better melee defense than an arial? Maybe the vulns outweigh permafly and extra melee defense if you're not a rager; I miby Isildur - Main Board
Arial is just permafly and more dex. Parry may be worse, but in theory at full stats an arial should have better defenses than a human. Felar is for the hp, the gear, and the fact that backfist (and spears, and staffs) are useful. Heat vuln is way easier to cover than arial's lightning vuln. Both have water so that's a wash. I was going to say, "I sure hope Jimmy is a rager applicant because there's no excuse for not having a return or teleport potion there". Then I got to the end of the log and saw all the glowing stuff. Woe is Jimmy.by Isildur - Log Board
