Identify the potion (use Alduk at the Inn if you have to) and look its keywords (ie, "can be referred to by"). Hopefully the potion has a unique-ish keyword, like "return" or maybe a color, material, etc.
In the case of Battle, there (sometimes) seems to be a different set of douchey players. The uber-conservative, highly knowledgeable players do tend to avoid Battle because of the handicaps. That said, there have been a number of times in the last few years where the leadership of Battle has gone to someone who is willing to induct their buddies and enforce no standards, leading to essentially th
My advice would be to roll a mage that doesn't require barrier. Aura and shield are far more plentiful, and their respective sleeks are generally easier to access.
Try a good/orderly conjurer and make use of archons, a utility/defense shifter, or maybe even a transmuter. You can explore quite a bit with any of these combos fairly easily, and with a little luck, you'll find your slee
- Some general lowbie quest hints - just where to find them would be really helpful.
Like SNSE said, look in lowbie areas. There are a dozen or so quests given by mobs in areas for levels 1 - 20 alone, and this includes hometowns. I found a new quest (small xp reward) during the last double xp Sunday because I was ranking someplace I usually just skip.
- PK tips for each class and general
A lot of MUDs make you type the entire name. The prefix matching is a feature, and it's gay when people intentionally try to take advantage of it.
If the person wasn't a druid, it wouldn't be so gay, but they are and it is.

Obviously ranking primarily off NPC quests, observation/exploration etc. are not newbie-friendly. Besides being boring, most newbies do not know how to do many quests, where to look, etc.
Nonetheless, those methods are some of the many ways of getting experience.
There is a LOT about CF is newbies probably do not like. I'd be willing to bet though that the consequences of double XP w
The problem with double experience is that it makes ranking too easy. If getting to 51 were too easy, people would actually roll 3-man (or 9-man, if CraftedD is involved) permas to gank down the uber AP instead of just threatening to. It would quadruple the number of characters rolled and then abandoned when the player sees (after 5 hours of play) that their sleeks and/or forms suck, or that thei
CarrionFields is a competitive game, and therefore people look for every advantage they can find to sue against their opponents. Preps, quests, equipment, allies, area knowledge, etc. all have the potential to change a fight. Packing one area full of stuff that makes “playing to win†a lot easier and then expecting people not to talk about it in at atmosphere like CF is a big risk, especially
Doesn't change the fact that game balance and abusability are factored into game design. Your ideas sounds much easier to abuse, both IC and OOC, than what we have now.
Plus it would suck having to be so dependant on other people and other (sometimes rarely played) combos just to be effective.
These ideas are interesting, but they all sound very (very) abusable.
You roll a farmer, I roll an alchemist, and our third IM buddy rolls an arial sword spec. You farm the plants, I mix the dope, and the warrior rapes our enemies.
Unfortunately, there really isn't a way around scenarios like that. Given the mechanics of CF, systems that allow players to manufacture their own ABS, go
I'm about 40% done with a Javascript thief calculator using laearrist's table that will handle counting points used/available and automatically assigning / validating prerequisites on skill selection.
The problem is that most of the people who suddenly go rager or use coins until they do their Outlander interview aren't "developing" their character. They are simply saying, "Hey, fuck it, let's go rager" because they feel like it. Similarly, using coins or doing quests to help civilized mobs 1-11 and then going Outlander isn't usually character development, it
The one that took data from PBFs and did the PK lists was by Gabe. It's still up at but it hasn't been updated.
I started writing a PBF spider but got bored. If there's interested in one, I'll try to finish it. I just got tired of writing all the regex for it.
The one I did was just a spider for Dio's graveyard so I could see what race/class combos were (un)popular
A coder at Dio's could use IPs to roughly approximate where users are coming from and display them via the Google Maps API. That's a lot of work, though.
For anyone who uses tintin++ and cares, Scandum put up a beta of the next release that includes regex support. It's beta, but it seems to work alright.
Including level 51 characters who age died with > 300 hours (so not counting people who wore +age gear like it was going out of style):
+-------+----------+----------+-----------+----------+------------+------------+------------+----------------+
| race | count(*) | min(age) | avg(age) | max(age) | min(hours) | avg(hours) | max(hours) | avg(hours/age) |
+-------+----------+----------+--
Beta in 2010? That seems far off, considering what they've demod so far, and how much is on the website. I hope your friend is being pessimistic.
I could see it maybe going gold in 2010, but damn..
