CF is already broken. This would be a tiny step toward fixing it.
PvE should be balanced around being intuitive and fun. Or if you want to get really technical, just watch these videos that laearrist is posting. PvE should help teach the game. It should be engaging. We should be able to get involved quickly. It should allow characters to express themselves, or it should provide a great story. etc etc
CF was great for 1995. It's not great by today's standards. It's out of balance.
Why can't I trip the bard in Camelot to delay his songs? If a thief can cheapshot a mage NPC to death, good for them. What's wrong with that?
You'd want to make sure higher level casting mobs have some spell protection. Seems like a better use of Imm time than looking at descriptions or reading roles or rewriting areas.
At the end of the day, this discussion is a bit moot unless we can convince the level 59-60 imms that their 23 year old baby has been sustaining itself on potato chips and mountain dew for too long. CF needs a heart transplant. Good luck with that. I've been in Valhalla. Some of the most brilliant, creative people I've ever met are up there. But they aren't serious game designers. This is a hobby, and the culture up there is a dysfunctional democracy for the small things. The only way big change happens is if a 59-60 Imm champions it and no 59-60s veto it. Nobody else has power to do much of anything.
All of this is a bit ironic to me, considering the longest lived CF Imms all got there back when hitting level 51 made you an Imm by default. They had to change the code to make it so every 51 didn't immediately become an Imm. Layers and layers of bureaucracy later, and we have a game that is unlikely to make the changes it needs to survive. Regardless, I don't see anyone sitting down to put together a fully detailed design document outlining what CF needs to do to improve, even the players. Personally, I think doing this would be the best thing for the players to do, but I know I don't want ownership of that.
I wonder if we can convince The Arcane to come back and help provide a vision. I think he's the new Game Director of WoW? :P Didn't he Imm? I wonder what happened there.
