Dark-elf assassin outmeeleing duergar mace spec on low ranks? Scratch that, *any* ranks? Sorry, too much for me. The game has changed so much from what I remember. Why am I playing a dumb, slow race when smart and dexy seems to be the "I win"button? Heh.
I'm kind stuck mentally in that time-frame too. Coming back and trying something again is really a different experience now.
Would you mind letting me know what changed and when?
- I know dex is king now.
- I believe axes are much easier to dodge now.
- I *think* maces are harder to dodge than axes, but dexy builds still dodge them better than in 2007.
- I think that level differen
So I had a pk match today. Fire lvl 19 vs human assassin lvl 25. Assassin was dual-wielding swords, which my char knows. I was wielding flail/mace which assassin doesn't know. There's obviously a 6 level advantage to the assassin. I only know parry, there's no dodging (not that it would help).
The first fight lasted about 4 rounds, I had to flee. He was hit twice, I was a punc
So I suppose that I have to respond to your post?
I helped a fellow CF-er who fell on hard times. I don't know anything of beront's history, having been away from CF for many a year.
Will this make me stop helping people out if I feel that they're in need? Absolutely not. Would I do it again? Absolutely yes.
As far as your suggestion that I owe an imm anything for action
I just randomly selected a few pages and examined past revisions. None of them goes to "Revision 1". One typically sees 4-5 last revisions and that's it.
I contribute regularly to wiki and I wish more people would. Instead of hoarding the knowledge on my own, I want to share with everyone.
The corollary is that when I post an ID of an item to wiki, I don't save it anywhere else.
So for some asswipe to come along and potentially delete something that I (or someone equally invested) wrote is a douchebag move.
Just noticed that bunch of entries in "spear" page have been modified so that they only contain the weapon name and have no other info.
Some examples:
barbed bone javelin
carved ivory spear tipped with mithril
diamond-tipped spear
goblin spear
iron spear
mithril spear with jade etchings
obsidian spear
Almost no earlier revisions of the page can be seen.
What's
I'm certainly noticing no lag on CF and I've heard of no one else complain. The odds of it being an internal CF issue vs. his ISP dropping packets from time to time are very low.
Number of people on CF should not impact you. Also, it's not like you're streaming some bandwidth-heavy resources, like online video. Text based gaming is pretty much the lightest impact you can get.
What might be happening is that your ISP might start dropping packets. Here's a simple test: when you start mudding, open up a terminal window and ping carrionfields.net (or google.
On the one hand, it's great that one class has so much versatility that you can't really capture it easily.
On the other hand, what's a newbie to do?
So, how about this:
1) What are some race/terrain/expertise combos that should NOT be attempted.
2) What's good for a total noob?
3) What's good for a noob who wants to be in : outlander (g/n/e), fortress, nexus
Hey guys,
Theerkla and SnS wrote two ranger FAQs. I checked them out today because I haven't thought about rangers in a long time. They're both dated. Some good general info, but neo-ranger stuff is not there.
Rangerpage is ok, but could be more fleshed out.
Rangerterrain is empty.
Any ranger gurus up to the task?
Wow man, your enthusiasm is infectuous. It's really, really shining through the entire post. Again, it's making my fingers itch :D
I viewed everything from the perspective of a retired CF vet. However, I then thought about this some more and asked myself "what would I think about this if I didn't know a thing about CF and I came from a general gaming milieu".
.So th
Really nice logs man. I haven't played for years at this point, but seeing any successful AP makes my fingers itch every time.
A few questions for you:
1) Why flail? "Enervating spirits" sucked ass 10 years ago, did they revamp it in the mean time? I thought whip was far, far better. Did you use enervating spirits at all?
2) Did you try mace in the off-hand? Was curious ab
First sentence of the first paragraph:
"You shouldn't have to put in hours of study to roll up a great character, and games shouldn't hinge on your ability to guess what combination of skills designers thought make the most powerful archetypes. "
Hahaha! Somewhere, bitter CF has-beens like myself are crying in our cups :)

The point here is not to turn CF into Farmville. The point is to see how an old franchise keeps rolling with the times to reinvent itself. It is fair to say that CF is taking a diametrically opposite direction, sadly. Hopefully, the Imms see this and give it some thought about direction.
